Ooho! A smart and edible water bottle!

You wouldn't leave your house without a decent bottle of water in your purse, right? Well, I wouldn't. A lot of people who do so do not consider the heaps of plastic rubbish that come together in the end.

Three industrial design students from London have thought it over. Inspired by the techniques from molecular gastronomy they have developed a blob-like water container that is easy and cheap to make, strong, hygienic, biodegradable, and edible. A thin membrane made from brown algae and calcium chloride.

Biodegradable because you can eat it. Technically it works a little like an egg yolk, which also holds its shape using a thin membrane.

We think that's an amazing idea. And the best about it: everyone can produce the blob their selves. In their own kitchen.
